Custom Styling for Dropdowns using select2

Hi there

Is there any way to style dropdowns with select2 based on entries?
Basically I want to achieve something like this:

Category 1
– Subcategory 1
– Subcategory 2
Categgory 2
– Subcategory 3

I need to format the two maincategories bold. But as far as I can see there is no way to add classes or something else.
Anyone knows a way?
