AbuseIPDB

Check visitor IP reputation and score submissions for spam with AbuseIPDB.

How to Integrate Forms with AbuseIPDB in WordPress

Use IP reputation data to catch abusive form submissions earlier

AbuseIPDB is an IP reputation service that helps identify IP addresses associated with abusive activity. In WS Form, you can check a visitor’s IP address whenever a form is submitted and use the returned abuse confidence score as the submission’s spam score.

Spam scores range from 0 to 100 and appear on the submissions page with the same colored indicators used by other WS Form spam protection services. Each check is also recorded as a system note, including the IP address, abuse confidence score, country, domain, total reports, and the reason a submission was flagged when applicable.

In WordPress, you can enable AbuseIPDB on all forms or turn it on per form. You can also set an abuse confidence score, choose a report window, add country and domain blocklists, and optionally report spam submissions back to AbuseIPDB as web spam.

If AbuseIPDB is temporarily unavailable or returns an error, WS Form still accepts the submission. The submission is not blocked solely because the AbuseIPDB request failed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I integrate forms with AbuseIPDB in WordPress using WS Form?

Add your AbuseIPDB API key in WS Form under Settings > Spam Protection > AbuseIPDB, then enable AbuseIPDB for all forms or for individual forms. You can also follow the setup guide here: AbuseIPDB.

What does AbuseIPDB do in WS Form?

WS Form checks the visitor’s IP address against the AbuseIPDB database when a form is submitted and uses the returned abuse confidence score as the submission’s spam score.

What spam score range does AbuseIPDB use?

AbuseIPDB spam scores range from 0 for low risk to 100 for high confidence of abuse.

What information is recorded on the submission?

Each AbuseIPDB check is recorded as a system note on the submission. It includes the IP address, abuse confidence score, country, domain, total reports, and the reason a submission was flagged when applicable.

Can I enable AbuseIPDB on all forms or only specific forms?

Yes. You can enable AbuseIPDB globally for every form, or enable it individually on each form if the global setting is disabled.

What happens when a submission matches a country or domain blocklist?

If the visitor’s IP address matches a blocked country or blocked domain, the submission is treated as maximum spam regardless of its AbuseIPDB score. The submission can still be saved by the Database action, but other actions and add-ons do not run.

What happens if AbuseIPDB is unavailable?

WS Form still accepts the submission if AbuseIPDB is temporarily unavailable or returns an error. The submission is not blocked solely because the AbuseIPDB request failed.
